Corporate Philanthropy & Volunteering

Giving back through volunteerism

From local projects to global challenges, we aim to have an enduring impact on the communities where we live and do business.
Below are just a few examples of the work we're doing.

Inspiring careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)

Girls4Tech™ is our signature education program that showcases our payments technology and engages our employees as role models and mentors—all with the goal to inspire a career in science, technology, engineering and math. Since the program’s launch in 2014, we’ve reached more than 1,600 girls in the U.S., India, Germany and the U.A.E.

In Singapore, we support the Girls2Pioneers program with UN women. Workshops are run by MasterCard employees who encourage girls between the ages of 10 and 15 through a series of STEM challenges. The program has reached 6,000 girls in its first two years.

In the U.K., we've partnered with Go4SET, a program developed by the Engineering Development Trust. Our employees serve as mentors for nine weeks, working with both boys and girls from ages 12 to 14 on STEM activities.

Supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs

The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) and MasterCard have joined forces since 2010, inspiring students to dream-up, develop and launch their own businesses in the U.S., Belgium, Mexico and China. We support NFTE through our volunteering and several board memberships and have donated more than $4.5 million in support of NFTE's global mission.

Teaching tomorrow's business leaders

MasterCard funds Junior Achievement (JA) in many regions around the world. In addition, several members of our senior leadership team serve on JA boards. For the past 11 years, over 5,000 employees in the St. Louis and New York areas have volunteered, teaching more than 70,000 students in grades K-8.

Sharing our expertise

Partnering with The Taproot Foundation, our employees engage in pro bono service to drive social change. Through our funding, Taproot has provided pro bono challenges to 15 nonprofit organizations and five small businesses in the New York area as well as five nonprofits in St. Louis, engaging nearly 100 MasterCard employees.

We’re also a sponsor of American Corporate Partners (ACP) with more than 90 employees serving as year-long mentors to members of the military as they re-enter civilian life.
